Ashleigh Rakestraw, LCSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Tennessee with a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. Prior to my master's degree I received my bachelor's degree in social work from Lipscomb University. I desired to work in the field of social work since a young age and after I learned the impact these roles can have on individuals and their communities. I continued to feed that passion through my own experiences in counseling, as well as witnessing the positive impact of counseling on others. I believe counseling should be a collaborative approach that can sometimes be messy, challenging, and beautiful as you work to become your best self. As with most life experience, I believe you learn more in the journey then you will in simply arriving at the destination. During this journey I believe it's vital that you have a safe space, without judgement, to understand and explore who you are and who you want to become.
I previously worked in a residential treatment center for women serving those with co-occurring disorders. I worked in both the inpatient and the outpatient setting within this organization, with my last role being the Assistant Director of Treatment Services. From there I went to work in telehealth counseling where I worked with clients to overcome barriers in their environment that prohibited long term healing. Many of these barriers were related to unhealthy relationships, communication barriers, mental health symptoms or substance-related concerns. My main areas of expertise include crisis management and solution focused therapies, women's issues, substance use and mental health disorders.
Originally from Colorado, I moved to Tennessee to marry my college sweetheart. We have lived in Tennessee for 10 years now and have grown our family to include our beautiful son, and a dog named Smokey. In our free time we like to enjoy all Nashville has to offer including its beautiful scenery and amazing restaurants.
